Staff Selection commission (SSC) is the central government authorized organization, to conduct the competitive examination for the recruitment and direct recruitment for the vacancies under the departments, organizations or ministries of government. SSC recruits the eligible and capable aspirants for the group B and Group C non technical vacancies. SSC conducts the CGL Exam, CHSL exam, Constable GD exam, Junior Engineer, Senior Engineer and Non technical staff exam every year.
Combined Graduate Level (CGL) notification will be released in March every year.
The examination will be conducted in the month of June or July for CGL tier 1 exam. Combined Graduate Level examination consists of three tiers, i.e. tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3.

The various posts (Group B & Group C) offered through this Combined Graduate Level examination are Inspector of Income Tax, Inspector of Central Excise, Inspector (Preventive Office), Inspector (Examiner), Inspector of Posts, Assistant Enforcement Officer, Inspector (CBN) Compiler, Divisional Accountant, Auditors, UDCs, Tax Assistants, Junior Accountant & Accountant, Sub Inspector (CBN), Statistical Investigator Gr.II and Assistant or Sub Inspector in CBI.New Pattern from 2016 (online):

New SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam pattern 2016 online
The Examination is objective type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). The exam paper consists of four sections with 25 questions each for 100 marks. The four sections are General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension. Each question carries equal marks i.e. 2 mark. There is also negative marking. 0.5 marks will be deducted for each wrong question.

- Tier-II consists of three different papers/subjects and depending upon the category of posts applied for, the candidates are needed to appear in two or three papers.

Tier III Syllabus:
In this session only skill test is conduct of 100 marks candidates who qualified in this above two tier will called for Tier III round.
Descriptive test
- Descriptive test will carry a maximum of 100 marks. an essay writing in english/ hindi.
- Candidates applying for Auditor, Accountant, UDCs, Tax Assistant, and Compiler are not required to appear for an interview.
- Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) for post of Assistant in CSS only. This test is of qualifying nature and has components of Word Processing, Spread Sheets and generation of slides.
- Skill Test is applicable for the post of Tax Assistants (Central Excise and Income Tax). To get qualified, one should score Data Entry Speed Skill Test at 2000 (two thousand) key depressions for a duration of 15 (fifteen) minutes.
